Review Summary:

This machine from Ebac is powerful enough to work in large areas and the manufacturer has included the convenience of Smart operation. The lack of user control may be a negative for some consumers, but it does do a good job of managing the humidity with the sensors and the smart function. If you want a dehumidifier that offers a high level of extraction, this model should serve you well.

For use in large areas, the Ebac 3850e dehumidifier offers great performance and it is very easy to use. This machine comes with an efficient compressor system and it has Smart technology to help optimize the performance of the machine.

With the ability to extract up to 21L of moisture per day, this machine could be good for work in homes of about four or five bedrooms. On the maximum setting, it really pulls the moisture from the air and you will probably need to keep it running like this when you first get the machine going. Its operating range is between 3 and 35-degrees, with the best performance coming at the higher end of the range. The user will definitely notice a loss of performance at lower temperatures, but since this is a larger dehumidifier, you still get a decent level of extraction even in the cold.

The 3850e does alright on water collection, but this is one area where it could stand to do a little better. The machine comes with a 3.5L water tank and this is enough, but another half litre of capacity would make the machine a little more convenient. That being said, the machine does turn off when the water is full and it does have a full indicator light. You don’t have to worry about overflow and it lets you know when the machine needs to be emptied.

For the controls, there is a mix of good and bad. While it does have some nice options and the Smart setting is convenient, it would be good if there were a few more options for user controls. You can control the fan speeds and there is a timer and a mode for washing laundry, but you can’t set the humidity level independently. Instead, this model uses sensors to detect the conditions in the environment and it manages the operation accordingly.

In addition to the standard dehumidification and laundry mode, this machine also comes with an air cleaning cycle. With this mode, the fan continues to run without the dehumidifier. It keeps the air passing through the filter and by doing so, it removes dust and impurities from the air. The consumer should note that the machine does only come with a standard dust filter and if they want air purifier mode to be effective, then they will need to buy the anti-bacteria filter.

The Ebac 3850e is well made and it does come with a 2-year warranty. For maintenance, the user will need to clean the filter every 4-6 weeks and replace the filter two or three times a year. If you keep up on this basic care, then this dehumidifier should last a long time.

Pros

Up to 21L of extraction per day Smart controls Electronic control panel Designed for use in the UK 5L water tank Auto stop for full tank Full water indicator Option of continuous draining Laundry mode Timer 2 fan speeds Air purifier mode Integrated handle

Cons

More independent control would be nice Since it has a air purifier mode, it should come with the filter for cleaning the air
